Swiss franc
The Swiss franc is the official currency of the Swiss Confederation. Besides, it is also the national currency of the Principality of Liechtenstein. The introduction of a uniform currency was planned in Switzerland as early as 1799, but failed due to a shortage of raw materials. Consequently, the Swiss franc was not introduced as a uniform national currency until 1850.
The Swiss franc has proven to be a particularly stable and crisis-proof currency and is valued outside Switzerland as a safe haven and investment currency for this reason.

After the Swiss franc exchange rate increased strongly from mid-2011 leading to fears of overvaluation, in September 2011 the Swiss National Bank set a minimum exchange rate to the euro.
